This course is a practical in-depth look at the tools needed to play in the world of Shakespeare’s language. We will explore rhetoric and its’ requirements in regards to argument and intention and the basic of all Shakespeare…the words. We will examine how the tools work in scenes when trying to discover then negotiate obstacles and objectives. There will be a strong focus on breath, voice and connection. You will need to bring a strong desire to “play”.
For the first class you will need a new Shakespeare monologue that you have learned well and it should be in verse. Consider the “animal” of the character and find a speech that you connect with – please read it aloud when choosing. From the monologue you will be cast in a scene. Depending on the needs of the group you may work on more then one scene during the course. Please be prepared to do work outside of class time.
